Fine Dining in Dubai – Pt. 1

Dubai is one of the most extravagant cities on the planet without a doubt. When I’m in a city that is a great distance away, (I’m not a huge fan of 19 hour flights) my goal is to leave no stone unturned, especially when it comes to trying new dining experiences. One of the highlights of my time in Dubai was the Sky View Bar, located in the world’s ONLY 7 star hotel, the Burj Al Arab.

Burj Al Arab - Exterior

The Burj Al Arab is one of the most luxurious destinations in Dubai. From the unique architecture of the structure, the décor, the lobby, the atrium, the elevators, no expense is spared and it is simply beautiful.

Perched high on the 27th floor is the Sky View Bar which is located in a very elegant room with floor to ceiling windows that reveal an unparalleled view of the Gulf.
The Sky View Bar is most known for their famous Afternoon Tea. The concept of afternoon tea may be foreign to some because it is a historically British tradition, one that is adapted very well in this luxurious setting.

It should be noted that Afternoon Tea at the Sky View Bar is by no means simply tea and coffee. It includes dozens of coffees and teas from around the world in both hot and frozen varieties. In addition, the menu includes fine champagne, soft drinks and fresh squeezed juices, the chefs carvery of the day, a variety of miniature sandwiches, exquisite cakes, pastries, and canapés with homemade jams and Devonshire clotted cream. All of the menu items with the exception of the champagne are served in unlimited supply.
Advance reservations are required for the Sky View Bar, not only because of the high demand, but also because without a confirmed hotel or restaurant reservation your entrance to the island where the Burj Al Arab is located will be denied.

The experience:

Our meal began with a special Middle Eastern treat, dates stuffed with Marcona almonds and candied orange peel with a glass of Louis Roederer Brut champagne.

To finish our champagne we were brought a delicious tart topped with an assortment of fresh berries.

After enjoying the tart, they asked which tea or coffee we would like to begin with, I chose the Caramel Macadamia Iced Coffee

We were then presented with a tower of gourmet miniature sandwiches

Included were my 2 favorites, smoked salmon on squid ink loaf topped with caviar and the pureed breast of chicken on aromatic saffron bread.

Our next offering was the chefs carvery of the day, a slice of beef topped with béchamel sauce with a side of mashed potatoes and a wasabi herb crumble.

They next brought us a tower of dessert which included various pastries, scones, cakes, and muffins with fruit and cream spreads. Also included was the most intriguing dessert, the camel’s milk crème brûlée

To finish up the meal we were brought a delicious Lychee and Rose Sorbet garnished with a candied rose petal. We were also presented with a special gift compliments of the hotel.

The entire experience of Afternoon Tea the Burj Al Arab was definitely unforgettable. One that I definitely recommend to anyone visiting Dubai that would like to enjoy an afternoon of fine dining and delicacies.
