Day 6 – Naples (Capri / Pompeii) – Harmony of the Seas
Our day in Naples began with a very delicious breakfast in The Solarium Bistro.
As we approached Capri, our view was like a scene from a movie. The idyllic coastline was breathtaking!
After disembarking the jetfoil, we spent a little time in the area around the pier. Next, we rode a funicular to reach Capri Town at the top of Mount Solaro.
When we exited the funicular, we had a 20 minute walk through Capri Town to the summit. During this walk, we were able take in the many beautiful sights in Capri Town.
At the summit, the views were simply amazing. The Sorrentine Peninsula and the Tyrrhenian Sea are visible from the lookout.
We stayed in Capri a couple of hours. During this time, we went shopping and enjoyed a delicious granita made with fresh limoncellos

It was now time to head down the mountain so that we could reboard the jetfoil and sail to Sorrento.
The city of Sorrento was beautiful as well. While in Sorrento, our tour provided us lunch at La Fenice.
Lunch included a pasta dish stuffed with a ricotta herb mixture, grilled chicken breast, peas, and potatoes. While not exceedingly bad, the meal was mediocre at best. I had high expectations for our lunch in Sorrento but sadly they were not met.
After briefly strolling through the city center, we then boarded a bus to Pompeii.
Pompei was NOT what I expected! I expected to see a few indiscernible ruins that the tour guide would have to explain. I did not expect to see an ENTIRE city! It is truly amazing how well Pompeii is preserved. The houses, businesses and amphitheater were recognizable after being covered in tons of ash from the catastrophic volcanic eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 AD. Pompeii was lost under the ashes for over 1,500 years until it was “rediscovered” and excavated in 1738. Our tour guide was excellent. She provided many helpful details about the history of Pompeii that made the tour very interesting. Also, she was able to answer our questions concerning Pompeii.
We stayed a few hours in Pompeii before returning to the Harmony of the Seas by bus. The bus returned to the port of Naples 2 hours before we sailed away. This was plenty of time to do what a true foodie would do which is get an authentic Neapolitan pizza in Naples. I can now cross out having pizza from where it originated off my bucket list
Concluding the day, we had dinner in the Windjammer and then went to Dazzles for some live music and dancing.
Our last day at port was fun, exciting, and educational. However, I am looking forward to a sea day to spend at my leisure.
